The Line Described

The line climbs from bottom points, initially quite steeply, on the ruling gradient of 1 in 12.5 wending its’ way through some tall trees on a precipitous track cut into the hillside, then upon reaching ‘Strath View Siding’ the grades eases to level.

‘Strath View Siding’ is ostensibly a storage siding, however, it affords spectacular views along the King Parrot Creek Valley to the hamlet of Strath Creek, we have thus far climbed 12m/40 vertical feet.

Lifting above ‘Strath View Siding’ the line hugs the hillside, this affords the passenger a breathtaking view of the valley looking south east and the King Parrot Creek far below, before continuing into ‘Top Points’ of the zig zag formation.

The view swings to the north east, wherein a panorama unfolds with views of distant snow capped peaks in winter.  From ‘Top Points’ the line reverses onto the top road towards ‘Summit Station’ shelter, the gradient eases here to 1 in 33.

Having left ‘Top Points’ the line passes by the ridge saddle on its’ way to ‘Summit Points’ before arriving at ‘Summit Station’ shelter.

The locomotive has lifted its’ consist a further 26m/85ft above ‘Strath View Siding’ at this point before arriving on the level at ‘Summit Station’ shelter at 236m/780ft above sea level.

From here the panorama is almost a complete 360 degrees, the vantage to surrounding peaks and valleys is unique and quite spectacular.
